HOW SAFE IS A SINGLE FEMALE TRAVELLING ON HER OWN?
Protection and respect of women is an inherent part of Arabic culture. Even at night among the market crowds, a single female can feel safe and secure. Violent crime is practically unheard of and a single female, as with any visitor to Jordan, will be welcomed with hospitality and respect.
 
WILL I BE INHIBITED BY THE MUSLIM CULTURE?
The Muslim religion is one of the most accommodating religions in terms of other's beliefs and customs. Aqaba is a town based upon tourism, and therefore shorts and T-shirts are a common sight however, respect for the culture of the country you are visiting suggests decency. It is appropriate to wear long skirts or trousers and mid to long length sleeves when visiting official or religious places.
 
THE MUSLIM RELIGION FORGOES ALCOHOL - MUST I?
Alcoholic beverages are available widely throughout Jordan, both to purchase in liquor outlets and served in many restaurants, hotels, and nightclubs.
 
I'VE HEARD OF RAMADAN - WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Scheduled by the Islamic lunar calendar, for four weeks every year, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, indicating their solidarity with the poor. The fast includes abstinence from food, liquids and cigarettes. Muslims do not expect non-Muslims to participate.
