Official Name: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Population: 5 million.
Official Language: Arabic (although English is widely spoken).
Currency: Jordanian Dinar (1,000 Fils or 100 Piasters).
Visas: Obtained from Jordanian consulates and embassies, or on arrival at Queen Alia airport.
Electricity: 220 volts, AC, 50 cycle. 3 pin and 2 pin plugs.
Time: GMT +2 hours, US EST +7 hours.
Communications: An excellent communications service is available internationally. Arabic and foreign publications are available at most newsstands.
 
SHOPPING: Traditional Jordanian handicraft items typically include woven rugs, carved olivewood, pottery, silverware, glass, embroidery, carved stone animals, and Bedouin jewellery and artifacts. And no trip to Jordan would be complete without purchasing one of the painstakingly designed coloured sand-filled bottles. In addition to these unique Arabic souvenirs, the visitor to Jordan will also find modern shops and boutiques offering the latest fashions and imported items. You may even be lucky enough to find a magic lamp!
 
WEATHER: Summer, Spring and Autumn are long and pleasant throughout Jordan. In the north rain falls from November through until the spring, but the port of Aqaba on the Red Sea enjoys a sunny, warm and dry climate year round.
