About Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the heart of the Middle East, a melting pot of history, religion and culture. A magical experience of old and new awaits the traveller. Take a trip into history.

Evoking a simpler time, Jordan is rich in historical and cultural heritage. The Jordanian people are very friendly and outgoing, the Arabic greeting "Ahlan wa sahlan" (I welcome you) will be heard at every turn.

Born in Amman on 14 November 1935, His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal of Jordan reigned for 45 years, making him the longest reigning monarch. King Hussein was much loved by his subjects and was known throughout the world for his commitment to peace.

His Majesty King Abdullah bin al-Hussein came to the throne after his father tragically lost his battle with cancer on 7 February 1999.
King Abdullah is committed to building on the legacy left by the late King Hussein, working for a just and comprehensive peace in a climate of openness and tolerance whilst also striving to strengthen Jordan's economy . His beautiful wife Rania, Queen of Jordan, is the world's youngest queen.
